M74 Eco Park
08 August 2010

Proactive Energy will be building a Biogas Plant on the B7078 to the north of M74 Junction 11. This will be the first phase of the "M74 Eco Park"

"The plant will be capable of producing 5 megawatts of electricity per annum, enough to supply 2,500 households. There are no odours associated with the process and no greenhouse gas emissions as the gas is converted into electricity.

While our main process is turning waste into energy it doesn’t stop there. By-products of our process, such as plastics and metals from food containers, will be sent for
recycling and the residue that remains at the end of process is a high quality natural fertiliser. Thermal energy, another by-product can be used to heat the premises of neighbouring Eco-Park occupiers as well as being utilised by cold storers and companies that require extreme heat in their manufacturing processes.
"

Planning permission for this development was granted by South Lanarkshire Council on 3rd November 2009. Lesmahagow Community Council were not consulted on the proposal. The plant is scheduled to become operational in early 2011.
