Community Council elections, as mandated by South Lanarkshire Council, are held on a three year cycle, falling on October 2011.  This meant that the existing councillors had to retire.

The announcement of an election was posted in the local press in September 2008 and an independent returning officer appointed - Douglas Walsh, Session Clerk of the Parish Church.

As at closing date six nominations had been received for the six elected positions so there was no need for an election.  An inaugural meeting was convened by Douglas Walsh to confirm the six new councillors. 

The current 6 concillors are; Jane Armstrong, Jeff Frew, David McColl, and Brigid Nugent, Jim Small and Jean Veitch.

A further three 'nominated' positions are required where the elected members decide which organisations should be approached.  To date Karen Hynd from The Ark playgroup, Moira Baxter from Abbeygreen Church and Liz Montgomery from Lesmahagow Development Trust have been appointed.
