LCC have been notified of a letter sent to Pattersons by Aileen Campbell MSP detailing a number of objections to the proposed route change.11 Jun 2010
LCC have issued an official objection to the proposed re-routing;
“QUARRY LORRY REROUTING”
Lesmahagow Community Council strongly objects to the proposed rerouting via Strathaven Road and Teiglum Road. While we agree with our friends in Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill that the existing routing through their village is unacceptable we believe that Patersons and South Lanarkshire Council should find an alternative route, one which doesn’t pass through any residential areas in
Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill or Lesmahagow. One such option was presented by a resident at our meeting on the 27th May 2010. Also at the meeting it was agreed to support the residents group from Strahaven Road who have taken action to clearly demonstrate their strong objection to this proposal.
We have been told that our three SLC elected representatives approve the routing through Strathaven Road. While this may appear to them to be the lesser of two evils, it is still not acceptable to have such traffic coming through an existing residential area, one which is to be expanded due to an approved planning development on Wellburn Farm land. In addition this will affect shoppers accessing and exiting Tesco’s supermarket at the bottom of Teiglum Road.
10 Jun 2010
A petition against the proposed re-routing has been started by concerned residents. This petition is available for signing in The Resource Centre, Abbeygreen.09 May 2010
A transcript of part of a leaflet issued by Pattersons is available to read by following this link: Pattersons Info. This information provides an insight into the detail of the proposed changes.
LCC would Appreciate it if as many people as possible could let us know their views on this proposal so that we can properly represent local opinion. You can contact us by Email, via the information on our Members page or by filling out our online form. Thank You.
The routing of lorries will be via a new road to be constructed near Ladehead Farm to link the quarry to Strathaven/Lesmahagow Road. All 3 Local Councillors have agreed with this proposal in principle although Planning Approval has not yet been sought.
20 April 2010
LCC have now received information that the proposed re-routing of the lorries from Dunduff Quary through Lesmahagow is going to be realised. The lorries will travel along Strathaven Road & tieglum Road to Join the M74 at the Europa Truckstop.
