FOUNTAIN HALL

The redevelopment is going ahead in the Fountain Hall. SLC are proceeding with their original plans even though our information shows that the groups they "consulted" with in July pointed out that the plans were unsuitable.

It is intended that work will start in the spring of this year.

We will publish the proposed plans ASAP.

A protest meeting on the Jubilee/Fountain Hall issue is being organised by local amateur dramatics group Class Act. This will take place on the 2nd or 3rd October.

Last week a series of meetings were held with current users of the Jubilee Hall to explain proposals for the Fountain Hall development. The feedback so far is that the plans proposed were not suitable for any of the groups. LCC would welcome feedback from anyone who attended any of these meetings. Still no word from SLC, so we’ll chase.

SLC Community Resources have indicated that they wish to discuss the future of the Fountain and a representative will contact us in the near future.

Another bone of contention with SLC. We heard some time ago that they intended to restructure it to replace the Jubilee, which of course is impossible in that it is too small. Again from the website we found out that they’ve budgeted £1.13m in their 2009/10 budget for its refurbishment, and of course they paid around £500k for it. We could probably have about three proper community centres for this amount of money! We’ve communicate with them saying ‘OK, you’ve bought it, can we talk about what you’re going to do with it; we thing a proper community centre with facilities to take the youth off the streets in the evening would be great – internet café, meeting rooms etc.’ Naturally the response to date is ‘we haven’t decided’!
