Doors Open 2009

Doors Open 2009 Report

Wednesday 9th December 2009 saw the 5th Doors Open Event on a bright cold, clear night.
Many shops were open and appeared to be busy, many of them raising a lot of money for charity.
All the halls were full of stalls and villagers, 44 organisations or businesses had stalls including Wrought Iron in the OAP hall, Girls Brigade making pancakes in the Masonic and playing Wii games with the Young Framers in the Jubilee.
One highlight was Santa’s grotto, it was absolutely beautiful. Santa and Mrs Claus worked very hard all night giving presents to more than 200 good girls and boys.

Some suggestions for improvement which were collected on the night were;

  • Music playing on the street,
  • Bigger posters
  • Have the fliers delivered more widely and earlier,
  • Ensure the street is closed earlier
  • Have the bus running.
  • Have it in November rather than the end of December.
Some people commented that the street looked quieter than previous years – maybe the villagers were too busy in the shops and halls.

Thank you to everyone who put in lots of hard work before and on the big night.

Background.

Doors Open was started in 2004 by the local shopkeepers as a way of  "giving something back" to the local community, to say thank you for the year and as a showcase for local wares & produce.

2009 was the 5th annual Doors Open which has evolved through the years into more of a street festival supported by most of our local organisations.
